PROJECT 3A: (STILL) SELF-TITLED

TITLE:

The Artist Under Watch

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This artwork is inspired by my life as a Creative Media student, where creating ideas is a part of my daily routine. I wanted to show how my thoughts and creativity flow into the things I make, turning simple ideas into something that is aligned to my art style. The eyes around the artwork represent the people who watch and judge the things I create. This symbolizes what it feels like to be an artist, where every piece we made is commented and critiqued. The artwork shows the joy of creating and the pressure of being seen.

TITLE:

The Artist Under Watch

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This animation reflects on my everyday experience as a Creative Media student, where ideas constantly flow and shape the things I usually create. The object forming in front of me represents how my thoughts transform into something that is my art style.

The eyes surrounding me symbolize being observed and judge to show that every artwork is seen through many different opinions. Their presence show the pressure when it comes to creating.

Through this piece, I wanted to show the balance between the joy of creating art and the pressure of being judge and watched. This work is a way to show my creative world and the passion that keeps me motivated to do art.

REFLECTION
Experience
I would say project 3 has pushed me to explore my creativity in a more personal way compared to the other previous tasks. For this task it involved having more creative freedom which was exciting but also a bit intimidating, as it needs self reflection and honesty in expressing my ideas. Working with surrealism was so new to me, but it felt refreshing and it allowed me to experiment more than my usual style. Sketching the idea was fine but, creating the digital poster and animation was challenging, especially since it was my first time using After Effects. Even with the technical difficulties and the trial and errors, I managed to finished with the guidance from my lecturer and friends.

Observations
In this project, I realised how personal experience really influence creative ideas and decisions. By answering the reflective questions, it helped me clarify my concept and made the design process much more smoother. I also saw that small changes in the image placement, composition and effects and as well timing can effect the overall result, which made me realise how important it is to plan and organized our work when we are doing animation.

Findings
With this project, I learned that self expression in arts requires a lot of confidence and openness to experimentation. Good design and animation are done well by planning and refinement. I also know that learning a new software really takes time but with a lot of practice it makes the process more manageable. I would say, Project 3 helped me grow creatively and as well grow in the technical side. This motivated me to do more experiments on animation and personal storytelling in my future work
