LECTURES
Week 10
INTRO TO AFTER EFFECTS
Adobe After Effects
Adobe After effects is a 2.5D animation software used for motion picture compositing (animation and visual effects). It is usually used in the post production part where it can manipulate imagery. This allows us to combine layers of video and images into the same scene.

Figure 1. Adobe After Effects example in movies

How it works?
By manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story. It can also combine physical based media through photograph and videography.

Figure 2. Adobe After Effects progress example

Pre Compositing in Adobe Photoshop

This works by transforming still images (graphic elements and photography) into moving images.

- Compositing layers in Photoshop
The layers can be arrange and rename so that it can be organize and easy to animate in After Effects.

Pre Compositing in Adobe After Effects
This is to animate layers sequence from various elements and platform.

- Compositing Layers in After Effects

Elements such as images, video, vector and more can be imported into After Effects. All the layers need to be organized and synchronized to the external software platforms (Photoshop and Illustrator). After Effects files links to it and does not embed its media.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED IN WEEK 10 LECTURE:
From this week's lecture, I learned that Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects have different roles but work together in the animating process. Both of them have their own unique tools that can help us on our editing whether its images or videos. For Photoshop, it is used to prepare and organize the layers while, Adobe After Effects brings the layers into a moving motion. I also learned that it is important to name and arrange the layers properly since, Adobe After Effects links to the original files. In the end, the lecture helped me understand that static images can be turned into moving visual through compositing.

TUTORIAL/INSTRUCTION

PRACTICAL/PROCESS
Week 10 Overview:
Focus: PART 1 on Idea Development on Self-Titled

PART 1 SELF-TITLED
For this specific project we needed to express our individuality and show our personality in the digital art self-expression. Its to build confidence and self discovery.

QUESTIONS
RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION:
Based on the slides the lecturer gave, there were some questions that we need to answer true fully. The main idea was to write a biography about ourselves

QUESTIONS (BIOGRAPHY):
1) Intro: Tell us about yourself.
2) Paragraph 1: What is your passion?
3) Paragraph 2: What motivate you to achieve your dream?
4) Summary: How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

The second part was to answer another set of questions, but it was there to help us write a statement about our work.

QUESTIONS (STATEMENT FOR OUR WORK):
1) Intro: Tell us about your work
2) Paragraph 1: What is the concept behind it?
3) Paragraph 2: What is the message you want people to understand it?
4) Summary: What is your motto/quote?

The third part was to do mood board research on all of the related information on our topic. We needed 3 poster reference.

From the instructions given before I answered all of them, I deeply think about my personality, my goals and my dreams. With this it helped me to from a direction for the concept on what I am going for, for this project.

IDEATION:
SET OF QUESTIONS
The first part was to answer the questions given.
For the biography section, I really focused on describing who I am, what I enjoy and why I want to pursue art. With this, I looked back at the things I loved doing when I was a kid, like drawing cartoons and crafting things with my hands. I used all of those memories to explain my passion. When answering the question on what motivates me, I thought of the main reason why I want to continue in this art degree which is to create cute, usable products that make people smile. From there, I imagined on how the ideas can be turned into my concept which lead to creative ideas flowing out from my head then into products while being seen/judge by people, which is represented by eyes.

QUESTIONS (BIOGRAPHY):
1) Intro: Tell us about yourself.
My name is Adila and I am 19 years old this year. Currently, I’m taking Bachelor of Design (Honours) in Creative Media. I’m hoping to do a twinning programme to Scotland to continue with my hobby of making art.

2) Paragraph 1: What is your passion?

My passion is art and design especially drawing cartoons and making things with my hands. I usually like to crafting things in my spare time mostly just for fun.

3) Paragraph 2: What motivate you to achieve your dream?
The main thing that motivates me to achieve my dream is to making people happy. I wanted to create cute products that works and helps to brighten up someone's day and bring a little magic into their lives. I hope that the products I do eventually would reach globally.

4) Summary: How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?
The way I visualize my dream into an artwork is by my creative ideas flowing into the products I create, surrounded by eyes that symbolize reacting and judging my work, both positively and negatively. It's a way to show how the world sees and judge my creativity.

The second part, I had to answer another few questions my work.
I used the answers from the first part (biography questions) as my foundation for the second set of questions.

QUESTIONS (STATEMENT FOR OUR WORK):
1) Intro: Tell us about your work
My work is more towards to self expression. It represents my passion for creating art and the way how I put parts of myself into everything I make. It also reflects on how I feel seen by others though my designs, efforts and ideas I put into my creations.

2) Paragraph 1: What is the concept behind it?
There's 2 concepts:
1) The concept behind it is from my daily experience being as a Creative Media student since I have always been making new ideas and designing. I wanted to show this process where all of my ideas and creativity flow into an object and changing it into something cute and something towards to my art style. Surrounding me and my creation are multiple eyes, symbolizing people that judge my work. This shows what it feels like to be an artist, where every creation can be judged.

2) The concept behind this second version is inspired by the reality of being in the art community , where creativity is always shaped by judgement and expectations. The hands reaching in represent the pressure and control from critics. It's to show how competitive and harsh the creative field can be. In the middle there's me with a hollow face that is filled with clouds, symbolizing unlimited ideas and thoughts that defined who I am. The repeated sheets of paper represent the constant cycle of changing my art whenever criticism happened. Altogether, the design shows the struggle of having to be true to ourselves when navigating in a world full of opinions.

3) Paragraph 2: What is the message you want people to understand it?

The message I want people to understand it is that no matter how good is your intentions are, even if you wanted to create something that can bring joy to others, there will always be people who disagree of your work since criticism has always been around. However, I wanted to show that with strength, passion and by staying positive we can face the negative opinions and keep creating.

4) Summary: What is your motto/quote?

Create everything with passion.

POSTER REFERENCES
RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION:
Based on my answers, I searched for posters and images that matched the idea I had in mind for my artwork.

I searched up for some keywords such as:
1) Eyes
2) Melting
3) Surrealism

REFLECTION
Experience
This task has really push me to explore my creativity on a more personal level. Before this, other assignments are given with clear instructions and step, but this one needed self reflection which was exciting and a bit intimidating. I like having more creative control, especially when putting my personality into an artwork. Another thing is that this task is more on surrealism, which is a style I don't usually try so it is refreshing to see something new to me.

Observations
While answering the questions, I noticed how my own experiences really shape my artwork. The biography questions help me understand my passions more clearly. This really helped me make my final concept to develop easily. Other than that, looking at posters and references also showed me new ideas on how to do the task.

Findings
This task has taught me that self expression in art takes honesty and confidence. I realized that creativity isn't just about creating to make something look pretty, its more about showing who you are, even if people judge your work. I learned that staying passionate and open to experimentation with different art forms would help me grow as an artist.
