TUTORIAL/INSTRUCTION

PRACTICAL/PROCESS
Week 1 Overview:
Focus: Graphic Design Poster

GRAPHIC DESIGN SEARCH
We had to make our Pinterest account for this subject. With this account, we had to do some research on 3 of our favourite graphic design composition in Pinterest and we had to explain why we like the design and what does the design show or express.

This is my DPI Pinterest board where I can get all inspirations from:
https://www.pinterest.com/adilanzry/dpi/

RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION:
After making the Pinterest board that I scrolled through Pinterest to see which graphic design poster that intrigues me the most

There were a few that caught my eye:

Figure 1. Graphic design poster #1

Figure 2. Graphic design poster #2

Figure 3. Graphic design poster #3

After showing these to the lecturer, he had some feedback for me and telling me what is graphic design poster and what is not.

IDEATION:
After knowing what's the difference between graphic design and illustration, I have finally found the ones that I like and that also matches on what a graphic design poster is.

Extra graphic design:

After looking through all of these, I chose 3 that I find clean and nice.

FEEDBACK
After looking through my Pinterest and showing the ones that I have saved to the lecturer, the lecturer told me that some of the examples I have shown were wrong because he said that illustration and graphic design were two different things.

I looked up what counts as a graphic design because I was confused about the difference between it and illustration. I also asked about the teachers thoughts too. Based on the teacher and google, what I needed to search in Pinterest was graphic design that had photography elements to it, not just drawings or illustration. It MUST have photography in it.

This is an example which I THOUGHT was graphic design but it was NOT.

The teacher advised me to find a graphic design that includes photography elements. I was reminded to make sure the work is not fully drawing or illustration.

FINAL OUTCOME
From my understanding and teachers feedback, I searched for some graphic design which I thought was interesting and cool.

These are the 3 graphic design composition that I liked.
Figure 11. Desire Poster (By Shoganai Graphics)

Figure 12. Cinema Paradiso Poster (By unknown artist)

Figure 13. Telekinesis Poster (By Futur)

After choosing the 3 graphic design, I explain on why I like the designs by talking about the colours, composition and elements they used.

Then, I elaborate on what each graphic design was about and what it expressed.
1) Desire Poster (By Shoganai Graphics)

Description:

I love how this graphic design uses minimal colours. The deep red and blue really contrast each other well.

This poster expressed:
The feeling of desire, where we can see the girl in the picture has a subtle face expression that shows it.
The two colours deep red and bright blue, does follow the feeling of desire. Its a strong  feeling and some huge urge that people feel in their life.
2) Cinema Paradiso Poster (By unknown artist) Description:
This poster uses a lot of filters to give that film-like grainy vibe. They also added the film roll onto the poster to show the clips of the film which I think is really cool.

This poster expressed:
The poster is about a film called Cinema Paradiso by Guiseppe Tornatore.
It’s to show the celebration of youth, friendship and the everlasting magic cinema which you can see from the facial expression that the kids in the picture show. Some of them are really into the movie, some are happy and some are distracted.
3) Telekinesis Poster (By Futur) Description:
I love the composition in this. Everything is centered and standardised. The red and yellow really make the center figure pop out. The graphic behind it shows the explosion which makes people focus at the center of the poster. It is a simple but yet clean look.

This poster expressed:
This poster is about a song from Travis Scott called Telekinesis. This song brings a sense of energy which fits with the posters strong colors, big text, and motion effects to show energy and creativity.

REFLECTION
Experience
It was surprising to realise how much I have learn from the very first week. On the technical side, I learned how to use Blogger and Google Classroom. Although it was a bit confusing at first, I managed to understand them better with the lecturer's help.

Observations

Through the class activities, I discovered the difference between graphic design and illustration. I used to think they were quite similar, but now I can see that each has its own purpose in the visual area.

Findings
If I could improve, I would try to research more examples of graphic design to expand my understanding. However, due to the limited time, I had to make a quicker choice during the activity.
